guacamole ingredients
Ingredients
  • 3 avocados, mashed
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 roma tomatoes, diced
  • ½ cup diced onion
  • 3 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • A pinch of ground cayenne pepper- as little or as much as you’d like!

Instructions
Step 1: Choose the Right Avocados
The key to making the perfect guacamole is choosing the right avocados. Look for avocados that are just ripe, not too hard or too soft. You can test if the avocado is ripe by gently pressing it a little bit with your thumb. If it gives without feeling overly soft or mushy, it’s ready to be used.

Step 2: Prepare the Ingredients
Once you have the right avocados, it’s time to prepare the other ingredients. You will need finely minced garlic, diced onions, chopped fresh cilantro, diced roma tomatoes, lime juice, salt, and ground cayenne pepper. You can also add jalapeños or other ingredients if you like.

Step 3: Mash the Avocado
Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit and scoop the flesh into a bowl. Then, use a fork or a masher to mash the avocado until it’s chunky or smooth depending on your preference.

Step 4: Mix the Ingredients
Add the diced onions, garlic, cilantro, tomatoes, lime juice, salt, and pepper to the bowl of mashed avocado. It’s best to add the salt and lime juice first and mix well, then add the other ingredients. Mix everything together until well combined.

Step 5: Chill and Serve
Refrigerate the guacamole for at least 30 minutes before serving to let the flavors blend together. Once cooled, you can serve the guacamole with tortilla chips, as a topping for tacos or burritos, or any other dish that you think will work well.

Tips to Keep Your Guacamole From Turning Brown
Nothing beats a fresh batch of guacamole, but one downside to this delicious dip is that it can turn brown pretty quickly. Luckily, there are some simple tips you can follow to keep your guacamole looking fresh and green for longer.
  • Make sure to add enough acidity to the recipe, such as lemon or lime juice, as this can slow down the oxidation process that causes browning.
  • Cover the guacamole with plastic wrap, making sure to press it down against the surface to remove any air gaps.
  • Store the guacamole in the fridge until ready to serve.
With these tips, your guacamole will stay green and fresh-looking, perfect for dipping into with some tortilla chips.
